About this part
Overview
Replacement headphone jack assembly for iPod 3G. Use it for damaged audio-output hardware, channel issues, or the Hold button, which sits on this assembly and must line up with the Hold switch on the logic board.

What Is Included
Included
Before You Discard The Original
The assembly we sell is the headphone jack, the wired-remote port and the Hold slider on one flex; the small switch the slider moves sits on the logic board. Even so, keep your original until the new one is fitted and you have watched the lock indicator change as you move the slider — the white plastic slider that shows on the outside of the case is the one piece worth having a spare of if anything snaps during reassembly.

Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Can one-channel audio be because of something else?
Yes: push the plug in all the way and try another pair of headphones. If it still plays in one ear, the headphone jack is the likely fault.
Can the Hold switch be part of the headphone-jack assembly?
Yes. The assembly sold here is the headphone jack, wired-remote port and Hold slider on one flex (Apple 632-0218-A); the small switch the slider moves sits on the logic board. Match the case depth: thin for 10/15/20 GB, thick for 30/40 GB. If a new assembly still leaves Hold dead, check that the slider lines up with the small switch on the logic board; if that switch itself is jammed or broken, the fault is on the logic board. To check before you order, move the Hold slider and watch whether the lock indicator changes, and inspect the headphone/hold ribbon if the symptom started after opening the iPod. This thin assembly is not interchangeable with the other case thickness.
Is this an iPod Classic?
Apple's 'Classic' branding started with the 6th Generation (2007). This is the iPod 3rd Generation (2003), model A1040. Apple's official name for this model is iPod (Dock Connector).
