What the HP badge changes, and what it does not
What differs: the branding and the paperwork. HP put its own logo on the back below the Apple logo and shipped the iPod in an HP-styled box. Warranty and service ran through HP, not Apple: these were HP products, so Apple Store Genius Bars were not authorized to repair them and they went to an HP Authorized Service Center. HP announced on July 29, 2005 that it would stop shipping HP-branded iPods, so the line was short-lived and HP support for it is long gone.
What does not differ: the hardware. It is the same A1059 iPod inside — the same monochrome screen, the same Click Wheel, the same drive and battery families, the same 30-pin dock and the same firmware behavior. Every 4th Generation part on this site fits it, and it restores and syncs exactly like an Apple-badged unit. The HP logo is not a different model and does not need HP software.
